We were hiking in The Needles region of Canyonlands National Park and we were struck by the profound silence of this southwest landscape—not a single bird chirping, not a breath of wind blowing, no other hikers nearby. The silence was so complete and peaceful, it felt as if we had stepped into another dimension. One of the definitions of the word sacred is "worthy of or regarded with reverence, awe, or respect." In this sense, I consider this place and places like this as sacred ground. I truly believe that we all need to connect with the spiritual beauty and energy of nature and if you can't do that in person, then the next best thing is a picture or video. Bill Caldwell has always loved hiking and the outdoors so his artistic photography is based in the natural world--landscapes, seascapes, and macro/close-ups of flowers, leaves, rocks, and driftwood, as well as abstracts created from his macro images. After earning his BA degree in industrial and scientific photography in 1978, he spent 20 years in the US Air Force as a Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) navigator. Now he's pursuing his lifelong love of landscape and artistic photography along with his enduring interest in spirituality including certification in Integrated Energy Therapy (IET).
