Description
Pink and purple clouds reflect off the pristine glassy ice at sunset on Meddybemps Lake during early winter in Downeast Maine. Granite boulders rise above the frozen surface near the edge of an evergreen forest. The ice was just thick enough to walk on and was still mostly clear as glass. This time of day, the ice looked like black obsidian except where it reflected the bright areas of the clouds and sky. It was so slippery, I had to wear cleats and scratch indentations into the ice so my tripod wouldn't slide away every time I touched my camera. This was the first time I had ever walked on a frozen lake with such pristine clear ice and I could see straight down to the bottom of the lake. The frozen lake kept making these loud cracking sounds off in the distance and I kept wondering if I was going to break through! Digitally manipulated for a painterly/artistic effect.
